ELDER Leadership

Indian River Presbyterian Church (IRPC) is blessed to have volunteer leaders who are truly dedicated to Christ and accomplishing His will. The following are the current ruling elders and members of the Church board of directors.

David Sowerby

Clerk of the Session

As Clerk of the Session, David serves as the Corporate Secretary of IRPC. His historical knowledge and background makes him extremely well-suited for this role. He has previously served as Clerk, a ruling elder, Chairman of the Associate Pastor Nominating Committee, and currently serves on the 2019-2020 Pastor Search Team and Administrative Ministry Team. His education and experience as an attorney is also a plus. David has been married to his wife Cindy for 30 years.

John Agate

Elder Class of 2022

John is married to Diane with whom he has two adult sons. John has been a member since 2016 and has participated in the many IRPC activities. John is a retired PE Assistant Teacher and has previously worked various management marketing and sales positions in the packaging and wine businesses.

Rebecca Ascoli

Elder Class of 2021

Rebecca and her husband Eric have two daughters. She is a member of the Rebekah Circle, volunteer with the "Kingdom Life on Wheels" ministry, helps with events like Lenten Lunches, and is a Bible Study Leaders. Rebecca has worked with a prison ministry for 12 years and was active with the Union Church in Guatemala for 15 years. She is a retired civil engineer.

Elder Class of 2020

Eric and his wife, Nadine became Covenant Partners at IRPC September of 2007.  They have two children, Daniel who is 12 and Lillian who is 8.  Eric is President of Harbor Insurance Agency.  Eric is a past Elder, having served  on the Administrative Committee.  He also helps with the Children’s Ministry, an usher/greeter at the Mosaic service,  participates every year in The Outdoor Living Nativity and is on the Mosaic Communion Ministry Team.

Richard Goebel

Elder Class of 2022

Dick is married to Michelle with whom he has two daughters and 4 grandchildren. He has attended IRPC since 2011 as a winter resident, and most recently joined as a covenant partner. Dick has participated in many following IRPC activities. He is a retired veterinarian, but has served as a teaching hospital administrator and educator.

Ken Grieco

Elder Class of 2023

Since joining IRPC in 1994, Ken has served as a member of the Session three times.  He has served as the Chair of the Fellowship Ministry Team, as a member of Mexico Mission Trip, Kairos prison ministry team, men’s groups, Sunday School leader, and youth trip chaperone.  Ken has had an active part in the annual Living Nativity and is currently the drummer for the IRPC Praise Band.  His wife Nancy have three adult children and one soon to be graduating high school.

Barry Keim

Elder Class of 2021

Barry and his wife Brenda have been Covenant Partners at IRPC for 40 years. They have two grown children Jennifer and Justin, and has been blessed with 7 grandchildren. Barry is currently the IRSC VP of Administration & Finance. Barry has been a Leader/Teacher of a longstanding Sunday School class. He has also served as Director of the Living Nativity and several times as Chairman of the Building Finance Committee (Administrative Ministry Team). The has served several terms on Session. Barry serves as an Usher/Greeter for the Traditional Worship Service.

Steven Knapp

Elder Class of 2021

Steven and his wife April have been married for 6 years. Between them, they have seven children. He is an Assistant Professor of English at Indian River State College. He is an usher at the Contemporary Worship Service and volunteers for youth mission trips and fundraisers.

Maureen McNulty

Elder Class of 2022

Maureen joined IRPC in 1994. She has been involved in many IRPC activities including serving as a past-Moderator of the Presbyterian Women and is currentlypart of “Kingdom Life on Wheels”(serving The Lynmoore Assisted Living & Memory Care Center and Lake Forest Park Assisted Living Center). She is single and retired from a 42-year teaching career.

Donna is an 18-year member of IRPC.  She has previous served as a Session elder, and most recently chaired the Pastor Search Team.  She served on the 2004-05 Pastor Nominating Committee and chaired the church’s Discernment Committee.  She has chaired the Worship Ministry Team, been a small group leader, Communion Server, and a member of the Chancel Choir.  She has been recently featured in an ECO podcast about Bridges Out of Poverty.  She is married to her husband Al, and has three adult children and two surviving grandchildren.

Vic grew up in White City, attended Indian River Community College, served in the Vietnam War, and taught Vocational Agriculture for 16 years and Computer Science for 14 years at Lincoln Park High School and Northport Middle School respectively. He enjoys his grandchildren and his ranch with his horses and cows. He serves as an usher the Traditional Worship Service.

Bill Timberman

Bill joined IRPC in 1995 and subsequently served two terms on the Session. His tenure has included being a Stephen Ministry Leader, Nativity (Marketplace) Scene Director, Chairman of the Christian Education Committee, Sunday School (adult and youth) Teacher, Liturgist, and Communion Server.  He had participated on several mission trips to Mexico and IRPC Community Workdays benefitting the Church’s local ministry partners.  He served as a program staff associate for the PCUSA Presbytery of Tropical Florida for 15 years and as a volunteer for several organizations including St. Lucie County Habitat for Humanity.

Jim Timm

Elder Class of 2022

Jim is married to Patti, with whom he has had 6 children, the eldest of whom, James, is deceased. He is retired after serving 60 years as a systems engineer in the military and space programs. Jim has been a member since 2013 and has participated in many IRPC activities.

Rick Tinsley

Elder Class of 2020

Rick and his wife, Jackie, united with IRPC in 2014. They have two children, Kailyn who is 14 and Dylan who is 11. Rick is with the St. Lucie County School Board as a Physical Education teacher. His faith filled life is evident in his work with the children. Rick has annually participated in the Outdoor Living Nativity. Rick is an inspiration to many. He has on more than one occasion shared his testimony in a Worship Service about God working in his life, through a potentially tragic circumstance.
