The dog days of summer haven’t stopped Rev. Bryan Wenger from jumping in with both feet to the challenging position of Associate Pastor for Service Ministries. Active ImageSince arriving in Ft. Pierce on July 30, he’s been busy “listening and learning and finding ways to make disciples inside and outside of the church and to further develop intergenerational ministries.”This month he will be examined by the Presbytery and officially installed sometime in October.

A native of Lancaster, PA., Bryan was a CPA before being called to the ministry.  He graduated from Grove City College north of Pittsburgh, with a degree in hospital accounting, and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree.Active Image

He served for six years as pastor of Upsala Presbyterian Church in the Lake Mary/Sanford area of Florida before coming here.  “While it was a small church with about 85 worshipers each Sunday, it was highly rewarding,” he said.  “it was a tightly knit church and everyone knew each other.  But when I heard about the opening here, I thought it was a good opportunity to bring my gifts and talents to a larger congregation, I am a team player, and early on I discovered that IRPC’s staff leadership is outstanding and teamwork exceptional.  I’m very pleased that I was invited to join the team.”
Bryan will oversee the care giving ministries of the Deacons, and the Stephen Ministry.  He will also be involved in local and worldwide mission efforts, and will participate in memorial services, weddings, visitation, worship and occasionally will preach.

The 40 Days of Service, which will begin in October, will be one of Bryan’s major responsibilities.  “I’m going to try and find out what motivates people to serve and to get everyone involved in a way that God has specifically designed.  I believe that everyone has a gift.  I hope to help discover it and put it to use.”

Early next year, Bryan hopes to train a larger and more effective group to reach the homebound and also to provide them with communion.

He also wants to develop ways for those attending different services to meet each other.  “The best way is probably through small groups, but I plan to explore additional possibilities.”

One of Bryan’s priorities is getting to know the congregation.  “I’m very approachable,” he said.  “Call me, talk to me before or after services, or e-mail me.  Let’s get to know each other and see how I can be a resource.”

Bryan and his wife Jean have four children, Nicole, Brendan, Ally and Brett.
