GOD QUESTIONS: Real Questions for Authentic Faith

But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.”
John 20:24-25

First, we hope it is an opportunity for you to invite people to church to help them explore these major questions of the faith. It is my hope that you would not only invite them to church but have an open dialogue with them as they process these questions. Second, I hope that it will help strengthen the personal faith of our congregation so that your faith and commitment to Jesus can be enhanced. Third, I hope it would prepare our congregation to engage with a world that has these questions, so that they too may come to an authentic faith that is rooted in the truth.

There are going to be two major sets of questions. The first set of questions will have to do with the foundational aspects of the Christian faith and are often impediments to people becoming Christians. And the second set of questions will be questions that we often continue to have even once we have accepted Jesus.

When we went through our Old Testament series we provided binders for people to compile their information. In this series we will not create binders but we will be providing materials, along with sermon reflection questions and outlines. And these can be found right here for you to download and print as well as be available in church each week. I would encourage you to organize these materials in such a way that will help you refer back to the information as part of your discipleship.

These are tough questions and in my personal preparation I am really being stretched to have this series do all it is intended to do. I hope that in addressing these questions we don’t just obtain an academic understanding of the faith, but the answers to these questions would help us develop a deeper level of faith and obedience to Jesus Christ. I hope it would also give us a greater ability to be a witness to the Good News in the world.

In Christ, Pastor Dana
